Mac-Talla Fèis Ile 2023 Tasting Notes
Official tasting notes
Colour: Deep garnet.
Nose: Maritime smoke, burnt toffee and stewed berries.
Palate: The influence of PX sherry casks brings a rich, fruity sweetness and added structure to this smoky islay malt. Expect notes of bonfire, rum and raisin, and marmalade.
Ed's review
Colour: Deep amber, like loose-leaf tea. Thick and viscous in the glass, with slow-developing tears.
Nose: Honey-glazed ham gently smoked on the BBQ. Red currents, blackberries and plums. A rich earthy character. Cinnamon, paprika and nutmeg.
Palate: Medium to full mouthfeel. Initial caramel fades into spice. Gentle peat smoke with a little coastal salinity, like warming your soul next to a beach campfire. Bacon with redeye gravy. Rich fruits, like a dark berry compote. Alcohol is well integrated.
Finish: Long finish. A bright burst of spice and peat wakes you up. Beach pebbles and a touch of lemon citrus.
